I received an advance reader copy of this book from BookishFirst. This book takes place in the not too distant future in which the world's superpowers have bombed each other, the Earth is covered in radiation, and many people live in space colonies. Those who are left behind on Earth must be tough and adaptable to avoid the radiation and affected wildlife. Technology is very advanced enough so that limbs and organs can be replaced if damaged. The book is based off of the Nigerian Civil War. One of the main characters, Onyii, was/is a child soldier who rescues her "little sister" Ify from the enemy. Unfortunately, in war, things are not always as simple as they seem. Ify is torn between who she thinks she is and who she was raised to be. The ending was very sad and leaves a possible opening for a sequel.
