The content and setting of this book were what made it not just unique but important in my mind. This was not an 'easy read' it was quite the emotional roller coaster and in the end the message of love between sisters was just astoundingly beautiful.

Onyebuchi captures the terrors of war perfectly, especially civil war. It's fighting against family, against your fellow man too of course, but more than that, it's fighting with those who should be on your side to lift up your country and your people. So, to have the heartbreak of it all described so perfectly was great.

Our Author's prose was wonderful and though the books pacing could slump a little, it was more than worth the read, because aside from the slumps, it felt as if it was continually moving forward to this point/climax that was unavoidable and had you on the edge of your seat.

I felt this was such an important book given that it was based on the Nigerian Civil war and I thought the plot and ending were fantastic
