War Girls takes place in 2172. Most of earth is a wasteland and resources are limited. The Nigerians and Biafrans are fighting each other for control of Nigeria. The War Girls are Biafan freedom fighters. They have been technologically altered. This story focuses upon two sisters, Onyii and Ify, and how they are affected by the war.
Overall I thought this was a really good book. The writing is really good, the story is action packed, and the characters are believable. Tochi Onyebuchi spares no emotion when describing the love and loss that the characters experience. He uses this novel as a platform to highlight The Nigerian Civil War that occurred in Nigeria in the sixties to show how children were used as soldiers.
On a down note, I wish that the author had explained the futuristic technology better. I spent most of the book trying to figure out the machines that were being used.
