Thank you to Razorbill publishing and Bookish first for this arc in exchange for an honest review. I really loved this one!!! It was based on the real life war in Nigeria in the 1960’s. I loved the action in this no time was wasted for sure. Although others related the book to The Black Panther it seemed more in the vein of The Terminator to me.

The story centers on two sisters Onyii and Ify who are torn apart by the civil war. One of the things I loved about this was imagery. It is set in the year 2172 technology such as iPhones are obsolete which is mind blogging to think about to me. It really does make you think about what the word will be like years in the future.

One aspect that was hard to read about was the children in this story like onyii are captured and tortured to be trained as “War Girls” Their limbs are replaced with mechanical limbs to be weapons of war which is why the story reminded me of The Terminator. It was so sad to read about the treatment of both sisters. The end when their was a confrontation between Onyii and Ify. Did Onyii really kill Ify’s family? Ugh 🥺🥺.

Another aspect of the novel I loved was learning about different faiths and how it affected the characters including Christianity and Islam. I cannot wait to read the second book!
