I love a good sci-fi book. Especially when said book prominently features badass women.
I had originally read an excerpt of the book a month or so back and I felt drawn to the story line. However, when I sat down and actually started to read the book, I had a hate time getting into it. The biggest blocker I had was getting to know the world of 2172. Much of the language the main characters use are not what we would typically call things, so getting use to the lingo and the language took me roughly 100 pages or so. Also the names of the characters were hard for me to remember at first. Not that I would have the names changed, it just took time for me to familiarizing myself with the names and once I did, the words flowed so much better for me.
Otherwise this is a great sci-fi book. The story is extremely unique and I loved the character and world development that Onyebuchi created for this story. I sometimes think about what would happen if we became so advanced that we could replace every part of our bodies with machinery and his depicts and imagination around that very question is fabulous.
The story line itself is complex. There are a lot of moving pieces and like the names, once I became more familiarize with the activities happening I enjoyed the story so much. Ultimately this is a story about the lengths people go for their loved ones and how far someone is willing to push to survive. ★★★★ from me, I only wish the rest of the series was out already!
