Wake Up, Wanda Wiley is an interesting novel about a writer named Wanda & the characters who live in her subconscious. Wanda is stuck in a bad relationship with a narcissistic man who she knows is regularly cheating on her. She's unhappy with her life but unwilling to give up on the relationship that she has spent so much time building so she self medicates with pot. The combination of this unhappiness & drug use has impacted her writing. This is where the characters living in her head come in. There's Hannah, who rebels against the roles that Wanda tries to write her into, who feels everything that Wanda feels & understands Wanda's thoughts & desires. And Trevor, the main character of an action novel that Wanda is ghost writhing, who hears what Wanda hears & can make himself heard by her in turn. Together Hannah & Trevor work to push Wanda to leave the narcissist who holds her in thrall.

This novel is an interesting way of exploring the reason that women remain in unhappy, unhealthy, & abusive relationships. We're shown how Wanda sees herself & the man that she believes she's in love with. We get to follow along as she starts to not only understand but believe that there is a problem with her relationship that can't be fixed.

It took me a chapter or two to get into the story but once I did I was hooked, I simply had to know what happened to Wanda, Hannah, & even Trevor Dunwoody.
