Waiting for the Night Song is such a fantastic and outstanding debut novel from author Julie Carrick Dalton. The novel itself is set in rural New Hampshire, so as a reader from New Hamsphire I loved its ties to home. Throughout the narrative heeds topical issues such as racial tensions and climate change, which makes for such a great and timely read.

I also really loved the deep dive into friendship and exploring big, overarching themes such as loyalty. I think the opening and closing of the book were the strongest bits, as they really did a great job of "show" and not "tell" and allowed readers to develop their own opinions and understandings. Some of the middle bits, to me, got a bit over explained and seemed to take away from the pacing of the story. I think the topical and recent issues are so critical to explore, but at times it took away from the actual timeline of the story.

I would recommend this book to fans of Liane Moriarty or Delia Owens!
