Started strong, but then it lost me

I found the first chapter of this book to be immensely captivating and I exchanged 2,000 points for it without hesitation. The opening lines were gorgeous and haunting. The final line of that chapter made me desperately crave more.

Unfortunately, that was all the book really offered to me. After that strong beginning, I lost interest in the story. What I initially perceived as beautiful writing became wordy and annoying. The actual story took entirely too long to develop and that surface poetic language served solely as filler. The mystery at hand did not seem worth the time invested to get there.

I wish this had been a hit for me, as my expectations were high, but the snail-like pace really ruined things for me. Should Julie Carrick Dalton ever choose to write a book of poetry, I’d gladly read it, as she is skilled with lovely descriptive language. I’m disappointed in how she uses it as a storyteller, though.

**I initially left this review on the wrong book and just wanted to note that. I’ve deleted it now, having caught my mistake. This is review is for Waiting For the Night Song, not We Thought We Knew You**
