This excerpt has so many hooks straight from the beginning- the main character tackling huge environmental issues, and then a mysterious, compelling text message from an old friend that tells readers that something long hidden is about to come to the forefront. Moving into the next chapter and introducing these characters as children sets up a really interesting story and I'm definitely wanting to know what comes next.
