"Waiting for the Night Song" is ticking all of the right boxes for me. The characters, plot and writing all really impressed me. Cadie, our protagonist, is passionate about her career and cares about the environment and has a good humor about her; I connected with her pretty quickly. By the end of chapter 1 we learn that she and her friend, who she hasn't talked to in 25 years, were involved in the death of someone when they were kids. Oh, and the body's just been found. I'm intrigued and invested. And then there's the writing! It's so beautifully descriptive, especially with its landscapes, that I felt immersed in the setting just a few pages in.

Also, the cover? Love it. It reminded me a lot of "Where the Crawdads Sing," though I like the colors on this one more.
