"For a man named Wander I'd spent a long time in one place."

Enger is an extraordinary storyteller. While my mind did wander at times I really enjoyed the setting and characters in this story. Having spent time in Midwest, I enjoy a Midwestern story of small-town life. Small towns are filled with some of the most interesting people and this book was definitely not lacking quirky and charming characters.

Our main character Virgil is a middle-aged bachelor and movie theatre owner. After a car accident, he must piece together his life and memories. Along the way we are introduced to Rune an avid kite-flyer in search of his long-lost son. The two strike up a friendship and journey with the community through their recovery. This is a beautifully written novel that is very much character driven.

Enchanting, Whimsical and Meaningful I give this story 3 ½ stars.
