Decided to make this particular book by author Leif Enger my first to dive into after reading much praise for his books. Virgil Wander is such a unique and charming book. A book whose main character...Mr. Virgil Wander...has just the characteristic that I find myself drawn to....curmudgeons. Ahaha...it's true. Another fave...quirky small town life and the people of it. Mr. Virgil Wander is the owner of the town's decaying movie house falling into financial ruin for good. He accidentally drives his car into Lake Superior. He survives. He goes through recovery. He is drawn to an old Norwegian newcomer of the town that happens to be looking for his long lost son who was somewhat of the communities legend. I can't even say I am describing it all that well. It's a quaint story that weaves through that basic idea and it's quirky and worthy of a read. The vibe...the feel of reading this book...it's kind of like a coming of age only the characters are not young and I think that's why it has resonated with me so well.

And can we talk about the writing....
“He had a hundred merry crinkles at his eyes and a long-haul sadness in his shoulders.”

Truly a wonderful read.

Thanks to author Leif Enger and to Grove Press for my free copy received via giveaway. I received. I read. I reviewed.
