I had the opportunity to read the first eight pages of this book in a giveaway, and have to say I'm hooked. I enjoyed Lief Enger's "Peace Like A River" immensely, so I was excited to hear he has a new title out. "Virgil Wander" opens on a middle aged man in Minnesota who, having survived a concussion brought about by a crash off a bridge into an icy lake, finds it weirdly impossible to reconnect with is former self. The world seems somehow different, as if he's looking at it through somebody else's eyes, a shift in perspective that coincides with the arrival of a strange person in town. As ever, Enger's vibrant writing is rich with wit, humor and wisdom. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of this book.
