Virgil Wander seemingly is the story of the title character as he tries to relearn and understand his life after suffering through a concussion resulting from a near-death experience. As he connects with various people in his life, he struggles to remember who he was and build who he will be going forward.
But truly, this book is so much more - the lovely story of the life that continues within a dying piece of middle-America, the amusing and surprising story of friendship and family and the different ways they help and hurt us, the story of hope in the midst of uncertainty.
The writing is real yet often stunning, and the author has a great way of creating a certain time and place with his words. This was the first work of his that I've read, and I will be seeking out more.
