Translated works can be iffy. You read them and sometimes sentences or ideas change or don't make sense from chapter to chapter. This book, while it did start off slowly due to needed background information, was great! The book primarily follows Luoying but we learn a lot about the people around her as they venture to Earth from Mars as teenagers and the planets, once together, are now ruling independently. The struggles the Martian teenagers endure going to Earth, somewhere they've mostly just heard of and know is almost, an ancestral home versus being familiar. Luoying has to question so much going around her, what her family does in leadership on Mars, why things are the way they are, making the book feel science fiction, philosophical and social justice all at once.
