On the whole I really enjoyed this book. I think the science fiction genre has the capacity to contain so much commentary on society and so I find that reading science fiction from authors of other nationalities and backgrounds from my own can be both entertaining and enlightening at the same time. The premise behind vagabonds in really fascinating, and gets into subjects like identity and belonging that have real relevance today. My one major gripe was that so many scenes of extended dialogue and monologue felt like they ran on far longer than their relevance to the plot would have mandated. Whenever I read translated fiction I find myself asking questions about the translation itself. In this case begin to wonder if the language is more succinct or exact in its original form. This could be an instance where the translation simply could not achieve a particularly elegant rendering in English without some rambling paragraphs.
