Lots to think about!
I really enjoyed the story, worldbuilding, and character development of this novel. It is very long and some parts seemed to drag along a bit, but in the end it was worthwhile and I think the slowness added to the overall “atmosphere” of the book.
The plot and characters start out very plain, straightforward, and idealistic - but in a somewhat uneasy “too perfect” way that makes it clear something is amiss. The author does a wonderful job of slowly showing each person’s personality, motivations, and inner desires. The readers are right there with the characters as many of them learn things about themselves, and in a way I’d also say this was a coming of age novel.
The ending ties up the major plot points, while leaving the reader with a lot to think about regarding the fate of everyone in the story and the fate of humanity in the “real life” future.
