It is rare that I read scifi/fantasy so I had very low expectations of this First Look before reading. However, I truly enjoyed the author's writing style and appreciated the 'gentle' way the world-building information was shared piece by piece rather than dumping many author-invented names and words just to create a unique universe. I don't think I would enjoy the entire novel, but I appreciate the opportunity to expand my horizons by reading the first chapter.
