Now that the strike is over, my review!

The first in a duology, Unseelie is about two sisters trying to scrape by a living so they can go back to their parents and move away. One night, when they try robbing on of the richest houses in the town, all they end up with is a disappearing compass, the rumor of a treasure, and targets on their back. This begins their journey into something far bigger than either one of them could’ve predicted.
The main character, Seelie, was truly the stand out of this book. She’s a changling and as the author elaborates in the Author’s Note, is very much autistic coded. I loved her personal journey of learning how to live with her magic and her misgivings about this whole journey with the strangers they pick up along the way.
The other characters, Seelie’s sister and the people they meet along the way, were also good companions, but I don’t have that many opinions on them. I expect next book we might get more from them.
I also loved the world-building, especially the small details. This is a world where humans and fae interact fairly regularly, but they are forever surrounded by ruins of a past civilization. It’s a really small thing, but I love how most of the characters were in the dark with what those ruins were except for the rich, education person of the group. Which makes sense! Even the map at the start of the book proves this point, with most of the areas not labeled correctly because these are a bunch of teens who are flying by the seat of their pants; they don’t know the geography perfectly!
In terms of a comp title, I think that if you like the show, The Dragon Prince, I think you’ll like this book, especially the latter half!
I rated this book 4 stars! I’m really excited for the sequel to come out!
