I was so excited to get this ARC in the mail. I am so intrigued by true crime, my husband is more than a little concerned for his safety (don't worry, he's perfectly safe). Paul Holes is an investigator that I feel like a lot of people are familiar with. He's who was able to use DNA to track down the Golden State Killer, and he's just an all around interesting investigator. He has a podcast with Billy Jensen - Jensen and Holes: The Murder Squad - where they talk about cases and try to solve them. This book takes a deep dive into Paul's life. It is also about cases that he's worked on and it goes into detail about some of those, however, it's also about his life. One thing I don't think we always realize is that investigators are regular people too. They have home lives and emotions and things going on outside of their investigative work. Sometimes their lives outside investigating are negatively affected because of how good they are at their investigating job. Overall, it was so interesting, and a great book for those interested in true crime that want that "inside baseball" type look. You could also read this one as a "slow and steady" read that my Currently Reading Podcast gals talk about. That way you don't have to fully immerse yourself in the true crime world for too long - you can take a break every once in a while. Overall, such a good one and thank you to Celadon Books for my ARC!
