In Unmasked, Paul Holes takes us through his time as an investigator in Contra Costa County in San Francisco. He mainly worked cold cases during his time there. He has a gift for seeing things others don't and being able to solve cases that have left other investigators baffled. Paul is very open and honest about his life including his battle with crippling anxiety and his failures as a husband. Reading this book is like sitting down with a good friend who is telling you their life story. Paul walks the reader through several of the cases he solved and meanwhile, he was working on the Golden State Killer Case sometimes going rogue to do it. He played a big part in solving that case and many others because of his work. Paul really comes across as a real, flawed human being who really wants to help people. He is still active in helping solve cold cases even though he retired in 2018. This is an engaging, easy-to-read book that kept me captivated from beginning to end. I will still be following Paul Holes as I'm sure he will be solving many more cases before he is through.
