I had high expectations going into this book, especially being someone who frequents crime-related media. This book blew my expectations out of the water.

We are introduced to the grizzled Paul Holes and his many endeavors in cold-case crimes from the very beginning. The story starts with how he to into his field, immediately confronting his own disillusionment with the life of a Crime Scene Investigator. Holes' medical background makes his breakdowns of the crime scenes analytical but easy to follow. He is very raw in this book, confronting his own wrong-doings and identifying his downfalls in his relationships and his cases.

His chase of the Golden State Killer, or EAR, is intense, battling a man who slid away from any and all detection for years. As the evidence builds up ad the chase intensifies, Holes is left to confront both himself and the man he has been hunting for years.
