For many years, I've been fascinated by the phenomenon of cold cases; that is, police cases, usually murder cases, where the crime isn't solved very quickly and ends up unsolved for years. So I was intrigued by this book, written by Paul Holes, a retired investigator of cold cases.

The book wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it was still thrilling. Holes doesn't present a series of cases and how he investigated them. Instead, he has written more of a memoir/autobiography, in which he goes into details about his life in law enforcement. He also tackles how that affected his personal life, with a level of honesty that I very much appreciated. And since his career did revolve partly around cold cases, he goes into depth about the major case he did help solve, the case of the Golden State Killer.

Holes's voice shines through this book, and I also give credit to his co-author Robin Gaby Fisher, who I'm sure helped Paul Holes so that this book sounds just like him. If you are interested in the life of a law enforcement person and how cold cases are in fact solved, read this book. You'l be glad you did.
