From the first page you get the sense of how connected the author is to their cases. He is up and active one second, slumped over in an Uber in the next. He goes on to talk about how his work has affected his personal relationships (ie his ex-wife saying that his work is his mistress). The empathy is real- because how do you detach from these grisly cases?
