Interesting police procedural!
Thank you to BookishFirst for my winning copy of Unholy Murder!
Unholy Murder revolves around the discovery of a buried casket containing none other than the body of a murdered nun. This is the 7th installment in Lynda La Plante’s DC Tennison series about a female UK detective during the early 80s.
After a casket shows up on old convent grounds that are being renovated to make apartments, DC Tennison and her partner, Boon, are called down to investigate. After a chilling autopsy reveals that the nun was still alive after being placed in the coffin, Tennison will stop at nothing to uncover her killer. Unholy Murder takes a good, hard look at the Catholic Church and the many scandals that revolve around it, including the unnecessary beatings of orphaned children.
I found this to be a very interesting police procedural, if a little slow, but I think that made it all the more realistic, because solving crimes doesn’t usually happen overnight, especially one over 20 years old. Sometimes the writing was a bit odd or forced and didn’t always sound completely realistic, but I enjoyed following Tennison around as she met with various suspects and persons of interest. Turns out everyone is hiding a secret in Unholy Murder.
Unholy Murder releases August 24!
