On the grounds of a historic convent, construction workers dig up a coffin that contains the body of a young nun.

This discovery isn't very surprising in a city as old as London, but the scratch marks found on the inside of the coffin lid definitely are surprising. Detective Jane Tennison believes this may be a mystery darker than she's ever investigated before, even though not everyone agrees with her. The church seems in a rush to conceal the facts and Tennison's superiors dismiss it as a cold case. Someone is hiding the truth, and possibly even the killer. Tennison hopes she can find both before they are buried forever.

I have read other books by Lynda La Plante and have enjoyed them but feel that sometimes her writing can be a bit flat. This one wasn't that way at all. I really enjoyed the storyline and it was filled with suspense that kept me guessing until the end.
