I wanted to enjoy this. First book I have read (tried to read) by this author. Very disappointed. I will not be reading another. I read the first look and thought oh this great, a victim buried alive. A murder mystery connected to a church with some very superstitious villagers. I got a little past 100 pages. It started off very slow in my opinion and was difficult to like the characters. There was not a lot of "thrilling" more like chilling. Detective Tennison and very unlikable. Too busy trying to prove herself and the actual investigation gets pushed to the background. Her rookie partner Boone is very dumb. His character is not set up to be very helpful and did not really do much for me other than appear as an annoyance to Detective Tennsison. There is so much history given, information about the church and lots of descriptive details about the buildings and scenes. I don't mind that too much but I was expecting more of a mystery thriller not so much a story telling. Figuring out who was the suspect did not seem so important. It read a lot more of a why did they do it. Which is fine but not exactly what I expected. The first look given did not really provide enough information to make this known. I would have likely decided differently about reading this book if it had been.
