This was my first Tennison novel and my second Lynda La Plante one. I'm a sucker for crime procedurals, whether it's in book or media form. I thought the premise for this novel was intriguing: a coffin is found with the mummified body of a nun. After the postmortem, all signs point to murder, but it's up to Tennison and her team to determine if it's a cold case.

Lynda's style of writing is clear and concise while also giving that sense of mystery readers want from a crime novel. The mystery of the nun pulls readers in from the beginning, and as each aspect is learned, readers can't help but continuing.

However, there were several decisions made by characters that threw me off. They were all based on personal life aspects that pulled me away from the mystery. Having not read the previous novels, this was my first look at Tennison, but her character seemed to almost get demoted to being horny rather than this badass detective. I know it was for the sake of the plot and to complicate the investigation, but it bothered me so much that I had to drop it down a rating.

Overall, the story was enjoyable and I didn't know how the case would be wrapped up.
