I did not know about the Cambodian Genocide until reading this book! I am still so amazed and how disconnected we can be from what's going on in the rest if the world here in America! It saddens me that we aren't more plugged into reality.

This book was extremely educational about some difficulties (and death) that many experienced during the Cambodian genocide. It follows one specific person, Mae, and his families escape to America.

The writing is well done and keeps you fully engaged throughout the story. Also, the author does an amazing job at painting the picture so you can truly appreciate and follow along. I felt as if I was walking alongside them throughout the entire book.

My reason for not giving the book 5 stars is simply that the maps included were not easily understood. I wanted to be able to see on a map the path they were taking and it just wasn't very clear. Also, the only time the title choice is mentioned was in the very beginning of the book. I would have loved to be reminded at the end so I could have better understood the correlation of the story and being "Under the Naga tail."

I did like having some pictures included as well because it gave even more depth into what happened. I also really loved the cover of the book!
