"Under the Naga Tail" is a memoir about Mae Bunseng Taing's life during the Cambodian genocide by the Khmer Rouge that started in April of 1975. The story is emotional and heartwrenching. I enjoyed the writing style that made it feel like James Taing was simply putting his father's story and memory to paper. And I can always appreciate reading memoirs, even if they are about terrible things, as they are 1st person accounts of those events.

I didn't know a lot about the Khmer Rouge or the Cambodian massacre going into this memoir. Previously, the only things that gave me knowledge of these events were the movies "Graves Without a Name" and "First They Killed My Father". Both were interesting and very different looks into these events. This memoir was from a very different viewpoint that was very informative. It was worth the read and gave me even more knowledge about the horrible things that happened in the four year span of this massacre.
