I remember learning about the Cambodian Genocide when I was in high school, but it was just one page of a history book. This book opened my eyes to the horror the Cambodian people were subjected to. Under the Naga Tail details the incredible true story of one family and their struggle to stay together and survive from the point of view of Mae Bunseng as a teenager. I was brought to tears many times during this book and had to stop several times to take everything in. I just couldn't believe how evil and sickening the Khmer Rouge regime was and this account gave me a new meaning of freedom. I don't usually read memoirs, but this is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. I couldn't give this anything less than 5 stars. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about one of the Cambodian Genocide or to read a story of one family's fight for survivial.
