This book details the horrific experiences the author’s father and family experienced during the Cambodian genocide. It is a well paced book that brings you through the experience of a Cambodian refugees as they lived through and tried to escape the reign of the Khmer Rouge. What the author’s father had to live through was a nightmare, losing everything he had to a communist party, only to be forced to work - almost to death at times- in camps. This is a true story of the resilience of people who are faced with the worst of fates. The Cambodians live to see freedom handed to them by the Vietnamese, making it to Thailand to become free, only to be forced back toward Cambodia- toward death when the Thai no longer wanted to house refugees. The author does a great job preserving this story, making sure that the Cambodia genocide, and the horrors that the Khmer Rouge committed are not forgotten to history.
