Twice as Perfect is a contemporary about a Nigerian-American girl, Ada, who has to juggle school, family tension, crushes, and her cousin’s wedding to a Nigerian superstar.

This was overall a very enjoyable book when I had time to sit down and really get into it. The storylines were refreshingly original, with Ada reforming a relationship with her estranged older brother and her high-strung cousin’s high profile wedding. The writing style was nice and easy to get into, and the pidgin language used in the book felt natural as I read on. I also really related to Ada’s partially-self-imposed need for perfection. I would have liked a bit more closure at the end- while we can definitely fill in what we’d like to happen next, I like endings that are less open-ended. Maybe there will be a sequel in the future because it feels like Ada’s story has more to tell. My biggest issue with this book is that it didn’t draw me in enough to always keep reading. I could set it down for days at a time without wanting to pick it up, though when I actually opened it up to read it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
