Nigerian-Canadian teenager Adanna--who goes by Sophie when she's not at home--is struggling with her identity. She doesn't know how to be both Ada and Sophie. She's struggling to choose between making her parents happy and finally doing something for herself; she's been planning to become a lawyer for her entire life because that's what her parents want, but now, she isn't so sure.

I absolutely LOVED this book. It's the sort of real cross-cultural writing that we need to see more of. What I especially liked was how the author didn't try to pander to audiences that didn't understand the culture she was writing about and gloss over any elements, or make the main character renounce her culture. Instead, this book was both a celebration and a critique, and I loved that. While I can't say that the plot was particularly surprising or that the writing was mind-blowing, I didn't expect that and I don't think it has to be for this type of book. 10/10 would recommend.
