Although I am not even close to being halfway done with this book, my fears for this book have been proven to be true. I had feared before starting to read this book that the idea of hard work would come into play as a means to alleviate centuries of oppression that black individuals face in the workforce, especially on the corporate level. Yes, hard work may open some doors, but what author Opeyemi fails to realize is that the idea of working hard cannot dismount the institution that many black professionals face. It has been proven in many studies that working hard is not the answer for any professionals to get promotions in the corporate world. Surely, it does not work for black people either.

While the authors collectively mean well with their promotion of hard work and being mindful of your brand, the real evils that must be deconstructed in order for every race to have true equality in any profession anywhere. Those evils are capitalism, ableism, and racism to name a few.
