Alice Blanchard is at it again with another detective series to look out for!
Natalie is a rookie detective on the Burning Lake police force in Burning Lake, New York where she was also born and raised. When Natalie takes on her first (gruesome) homicide and a stack of unsolved cases she is faced with the reality that growing up in a small town means that the victims and the suspects are all people she knows. Juggling her past relationships and close friendships while also trying to hunt a killer and find justice for her long-time family proves to be a more trying task than she might have been prepared for.
Alice Blanchard has created a likable and relatable detective, who is the perfect mix of emotions and wit to motivate her to solve her cases. The story is slow moving like most police procedurals (borderlines on being TOO slow and repetitive at times!) but has enough mystery and action to keep you hooked and make the ending unpredictable. I cant wait to read the rest of this series and follow Natalie around in her career!
