I'm not sure what to make of this excerpt. Adding witchcraft into a detective novel certainly is unusual, but the scene in the graveyard certainly is an odd start.
I'd be willing to give the plot a go, but in general, the writing style bugs me. The descriptions and the dialogue are often stilted and unnatural. I'll probably skip this one.
