I was interested in this book because it was pitched as an Irish historical fantasy book and it definitely delivered with that. I enjoyed learning about a time period that I didn't know much about (attempted Roman conquest of the ancient Irish). I also liked the world and the magic but the world-building needed something more. It can be difficult to create a believable magic system and the author did a pretty good job with it. I liked the characters but I did think they could have benefited from a bit more fleshing out. I'm a sucker for a good love story so I did enjoy the relationships throughout the book.
All in all I would recommend this book to historical fiction lovers who are comfortable with some magic thrown in.
