I was hoping that this book would break some fantasy norms when it comes to female narratives and...I was slightly disappointed. There are pretty common romance elements here and some 'twists' that honestly, if you have consumed any media in the past 100 years, you will see coming.

What I did really like was the use of Celtic myth. I studied a little bit of Celtic mythology and Irish writing tropes in school and it was really fun to go 'hey I know the influence of this!' in numerous areas of this book. Even our main character comes from the Irish myth tradition and was a blast.

I will say that the author clearly had a really cool plan in mind for this story but, she seemed to REALLY want to write those scenes and for her readers to experience them so sometimes, the book felt like it was thrown together last second to showcase some really cool scenes with some not so great filler in between. Even with that feeling however, I had a great time reading this story and would recommend it as a beach read for sure!
