This book had me from the very beginning. I read an excerpt, and knew I had to finish the whole thing. The main characters are captivating, and the blend of magic and history is perfect.
Set in Ireland during the expansion of the Roman Empire, Keelin, our heroine is on the path to becoming a priestess. She resents her path being chosen for her, and McGrath captures this well. Keelin's relationship with Brian, as childhood frenemies is entertaining as it evolves.
The story does jump around a bit between characters, which can be a little disconcerting at first, but can be gotten used to as the book goes on. The only thing I didn't like was how the ending felt a little rushed. I would have liked a few more details and less jumping suddenly from one point in time to much later down the road.
