While not my usual genre, I was looking forward to reading To the Waters and the Wild by S.C. McGrath. I thought the book started off nicely through a dream sequence of Keelin’s. Keelin has special powers and is being groomed by Nuala to develop her skills. As the book progresses we can expect a war between the Island of Eire which has been at peace for five years and the Romanach Empire. Keelin also has a on-off again love interest in Brian who is a warrior in training. My overall opinion is that this book is a first draft. The book has been outlined but decisions need to be made as to what direction and depth should be explored. Is this a first book of a planned series? Right now, I think it might fit the needs of a youth book but not an adult reader. I received this advanced copy from BookishFirst and Seanachie Press in exchange for an honest review.
