I've never read Eragon or any of the author's other books but I was super excited for this nonetheless. It's definitely an epic - both in story and simply sheer length. So long it's hard to hold the paperback version in my hands!
I wish this picked up quicker, but it was incredibly interesting and quite a world to get into. I don't think this is a book that can be read a little at a time, I think you need to dedicate good chunks of time to read this. The character and world building is pretty good, though there are a number of tropes, which isn't surprising.
Obviously, there a lot of characters in the novel, but they are weaved in well. A lot of people listened to this on audiobook, and I think I may have enjoyed it more in that medium.
All in all, it was a good read but entirely too long and I think I would have enjoyed this more if it was shorter and condensed.
