So much promise but hidden behind a lack of editing

Paolini had an issue as a young writer that I was hoping he would grow out of. He has this way of over explaining yet not explaining key elements to a book while also giving WAY too much filler.

Sea of Stars is a monster of a book and is in no way for a science fiction beginner. Paolini seems to enjoy spending pages explaining non crucial pieces of information that made it feel like whoever was editing this book was nothing more than a yes man instead of editing this tome down to something more readable.

I really wanted to give Paolini another go but, just like with his dragon series, I found his writing pretentious and attempting to play out of his league talent wise. I think that is the biggest issue here. I think Paolini does have talent but because of his concept of what makes good writing AND his inability to see that writing in a more simplistic tone would actually help his writing, the whole thing comes off as a slog rather than a fun exploration of character, setting, and story.
