I read this quite a while back and actually never finished it (was a library loan and didn't have the time). This is a CHUNKY book. Not only in size but the writing is rather dense and I found myself re-reading a lot of parts, maybe because *I'm* dense? I don't know, I don't read sci-fi that much anymore, But anyway, as dense as it was and despite not finishing I really enjoyed this! I'm a longtime fan of Paolini and was curious to see his writing in a genre other than fantasy. The descriptions, while sometimes complicated, were INCREDIBLY vivid and so lush. The characters were intriguing and I liked how the sketches gradually came to life. The story was surprisingly easy to follow, and there was lots and lots of action. It just felt like there was a lot of flowery, unnecessary stuff *getting* readers to the action that kind of bogged it down. Honestly I think the book could've been half the size.
