The sneak peak of this book is very gripping. In addition to what promises to be some very exciting alien tech/human interaction there is also a lot of conflict inside Kira herself. She wants to travel space, but also deeply misses her family, she enjoys her job as a xenobiologist and getting to see and help create new worlds for human habitation but she longs for close friends she isn't always leaving and a relationship with her boyfriend in which their time together isn't at the whim of the company they work for. It will be interesting to see what trials she faces following the interaction with the black dust, and how it will affect the other conflicts of craving adventure but also wanting to be settled and content with her family, creating something lasting.
