I loved the Eragon series. Up until the last book. The last book undid the whole series and was a total cop-out. But Paolini was young. He created a huge story and had to wrap it up. I understand. Fast forward almost 10 years. Paolini is now in his mid-30’s. Wow how time flies! And he embarks on a gargantuan space opera of a science fiction book. The scope of this book is incredible. It’s no wonder it’s almost 900 pages! Though Paolini is no stranger to big books. But middle grade/YA big books have bigger font size. Not only has he switched genres but he has switched audiences. Though the new audience is in fact the old audience! Because they are in their 30’s as well. Does it hold up?

Kira is a xenobiologist in the far future where Earth is just the tip of the iceberg. Earth was the starting point and humans have moved far beyond in outer space. She and her crew, including her boyfriend, Alan, are almost done surveying the planet Adrasteia when one more anomaly crops up and Kira is sent out to investigate before leaving the planet for good. What Kira finds is far beyond her imaginings. And that is where I leave you. Because you must discover for yourself what Kira encounters, who she encounters, and how she copes with it all. It is as vast as outer space itself! Welcome to the Fractal Verse!

I loved the cover of this book and I can’t wait to get the final hardcover edition in the mail. I hope it’s shiny!! Kira is doing a deep dive into who knows what and who knows where?! I also love the simplicity of just Paolini’s last name on the cover. Because hey, he’s known enough!
