I love the concept of the book, the idea of using fiction to string together the facts regarding the Tiffany mansion fire. Unfortunately, it feels...strained even from the beginning. There's something about Jenny's wistfulness and nostalgia as she describes having come home to the mansion after the fire that already has turned me off from her. I'm not sure what it is, exactly, but I just feel like there's already one too many "Oh this tragic event happened where I found myself" stories out there, particularly about authors, and the author hasn't made this one quite appealing enough to want to keep reading. Jenny even has the "not as rich as my best friend/fellow artist" quality that seems to be a cliche in these books.
