Different than my usual picks, but definitely engaging

First, the cover pulled me right in. The colors are mesmerizing and beautiful, but they definitely hint at something sinister. Next, the writing style is more formal than I usually choose to read. For example, the author uses the term "dined" instead of ate. I'm much more into writing style that reflects how real people speak, something I can relate to. Also, the character is clearly haunted by a past, which always interests me. I'd read this book, but not sure the writing style will hold me.
