The cover, title, and synopsis immediately caught my eye with vibrant colors and the promise of a unique fantasy tale, but the first 57 pages have me utterly hooked.

The cover if absolutely stunning, reminding me in some ways of one of my favorite books, Spin the Dawn, which even has a similar title. I was immediately interested by the advertising of a story about the kids of ancient gods and fates. And as I finished reading the prologue I just knew this book would be incredible.

The writing style is fast paced with a lovely flow in its descriptions. Not so descriptive as to slow down the pacing, but detailed enough that I could just feel the glow of the pink moon and taste the air of the city.

Which brings me to the world building. It was done exactly right. After just the first 57 pages I can see the diverse, dingy, yet beautiful city our main character is experiencing. The city and “magic” elements reminded me very much of Six of Crows which is extremely high praise since I consider Six of Crows to have some of the best world building I have ever read.

I’m so excited to be able to read this book and be able to follow more of Io’s story.
