As soon as I noticed the year was set in what seemed to be very long ago, maybe I misinterpreted. But I love ancient/medieval time settings. So I was immediately drawn in.
The first couple of lines were also very attention catching and descriptive, instantly pulling you into the story and the scene.

The cover is adorable and very accurate considering the main character’s names are Blue and Red. Maybe a little political as well?
However, if I had not been in the
sci-fi/fantasy section, I may not have clicked on it. It came across as either a contemporary romance or soul searching or finding yourself. It may include aspects of those tropes but did not ring science fiction or much of fantasy.
I was a bit confused by the use of ‘she’ when referring to Red when both Red and Blue were described as genderless?
Overall it was incredibly mysterious and left me wanting more.
